Welcome to the English 3 Honors (1A).

Everything you’ll need to successfully pass this class with a 4.0 will be posted here-including notes, study guides, online texts, and personal anecdotes about Mr. Boado that may or may not be on the tests.

Lecture/Lessons Policy

If you are absent/tardy and you miss all or any of the lecture you cannot receive full credit for that day.

Students who are present in class are expected to take notes, ask questions, participate in discussions, and remain conscious. An assignment grade (ie. 10 points) will be given to students who are present for lectures, class-assignments, and discussions.

If you are absent or tardy for any reason, and it is categorized as excused by the school, then you will be given a make-up grade (ie. 7 points) once you complete the make-up assignment. Unexcused absences or tardies can result in a lower grade unless arrangements are made with the teacher.

Essay Test #1 A Raisin in the Sun

ESSAY QUESTION EXTENSION: DUE MONDAY NOV.7th 2:05pm.

ESSAY QUESTION: The character of Travis is a very small, but important part of the A Raisin in the Sun story. What would be missing if Travis’ character did not exist? Is he essential to the story?

Tips:

  • Think of conversations in which Travis speaks and what do these discussions reveal about other characters.
  • Think of scenes in which Travis has a part–what do we learn of other characters?
  • What would it look like if Travis’ scenes were replaced with an existing character, not a new character, but someone already in the story. Would the story be as powerful?

Typed, Double-spaced, Standard fonts/size, no cover page required, MLA format not required, bibliography or reference page not required.

DUE at the beginning of class.

email final paper: david.boado@mnps.org

or turn in a paper copy. Hand-written essays are frowned upon and unacceptable at the collegiate level. They are typically harder to read, messier, and have more errors. If that’s all you have for now-fine. Going forward, plan on typing the next one.

ESSAY RUBRIC

PLAGIARISM WILL RESULT IN A ZERO.

Turning in a paper you did not write is completely, absolutely unacceptable-whether you had a friend/family member write it or you actually paid someone to write it. This includes pay-for-essay websites.

Cheating, plagiarizing, or any forms of misconduct will result in a zero for a grade. Furthermore, your placement in English Honors will be discussed with the principal, guardians, and academic advisors/counselors.

Just write the paper. If you are stuck, stressed, or confused I am here to help you.
